Over all efficacy on different covid19 vaccines in preventing infection

Editor’s Note:

The author of this article is the TOPNOTCHER (Top 1) in the Diplomate Examination in Internal Medicine in 2009.

He was also TOP 3 in the Diplomate Examination in Adult Pulmonary Medicine in 2013.

He landed in the TOP 20 SLOT during the 2003 Physician Licensure Examination.

He is acclaimed as one of the top pulmonologists in the country today.

Bohol is very fortunate as he is among the leading frontliners in the fight against the Coronavirus disease (Covid) here in the our province. .

An alumnus of the Cebu Institute of Medicine College of Medicine, this medical doctor had his residency training at the Visayas Community Medical Center located along Osmeña Blvd., Cebu City.

As a Chief Fellow, he had his FELLOWSHIP TRAINING in Adult Pulmonology at the University of the Philippines-Philippine General Hospital (UP-PGH).

Currently, he is a board member of the Philippine College of Physicians-Bohol chapter.

These are just a few of his credentials picked out from among the long list of qualifications and achievements this frontliner possesses not forgetting, most of all, his zeal and vigor in the crusade against Covid-19.

As he holds clinic hours from 11 am to 2 pm, Monday to Friday at the Tagbilaran Community Hospital located at M. Parras street, whatever spare time he has, he dedicates it all to his commitment to serve the Boholano people through his firm resolve that Covid-19 should be, must be and could be toppled down “if we will all be together in the fight”.

This is the very reason that the genius behind the man named Dr. Bryan Cepedoza, is able to share his thoughts regarding the available vaccines against Covid.

His thoughts are captured in his craft entitled “ Overall Efficacy on Different Covid-19 Vaccines in Preventing Infection”. He says:

– Pfizer 95%,
– Moderna 94%,
– Sputnik 91%,
– Astra 70%
– Sinovac 91% (turkey trial),
– 65.3% (indonesian trial),
– 50% (Brazilian trial),
– Janssen 66%.

All these vaccines mentioned above, however, are 100% effective against severe COVID19. This means that, if you get vaccinated, yet still get infected, you will only experience mild or moderate symptoms which is not fatal.

So if you’ll ask me, ‘What is the best vaccine for Covid19?’ My answer is: “The vaccine available right now”.

Being too picky is not always bad, but it should neither delay the vaccination rollout .(‘wag masyadong maging choosy mga beshy.)

* The Side effects:

All and any vaccines including COVID19, are antigens (viral particles or a version of a whole living virus that are weakened).

Once introduced to the body, our immune system will produce antibodies and memory immune cells that will protect us from possible future infections. These antibodies produced by our immune cells are the ones responsible for the manifestations of side effects; (myalgia, fatigue, fever and chills, sore arm, allergies). So, then, if you develop one or more side effects, it just simply means that the vaccine is working and that your immune system is intact. Think of these reactions as a small price we pay for future protection.

* The Vaccine Safety:

As of March 5, the COVID19 infection in the US was already at a staggering 28,827,140 with 520,356 deaths. Vaccines administered were at 82,572,848 and vaccine-caused death is 0 (ZERO).

SARS-CoV2 as being elusive and highly infectious eventually will infect all of us no matter how careful we might be (yes, you’ve read it right! All of us). So having said that, we only have 2 choices;

1. Either you take the vaccine offered to us right now or,
2. Be part of the statistics.

I beg you to choose the vaccine.

Stay safe!
