Board member Lucille Lagunay wants the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) to investigate the alleged exorbitant fare of vans-for-hire (V-Hire). The board member also stated that these vans-for-hire have allegedly started to accept passengers in at full capacity status inside the van.
Lagunay, in a privilege speech delivered during the SP’s regular session on Tuesday, Mar. 9, 2021, stated she received reports and complaints from the riding public regarding the alleged exorbitant fare prices.
She understands that there was a fare hike due to health safety protocols which limited the seating capacity of public utility vehicles (PUV). However, she noted that the higher fare remained despite some V-Hires accepting passengers in at full capacity status.
The provincial lawmaker said that she wants the SP to probe the PUVs’ operations even if the province is still being under the Modified General Community Quarantine(MGCQ).
Under the MGCQ, PUV’s are allowed to take in passengers at 50% capacity.
She said there is a need to take a look into this matter as it may be a reason for the increase in the number of Coronavirus disease (Covid) cases here.
