A solon points to Technical Vocational Education (TechVoc) as a key strategy to ensure job security.

First District Cong. Edgar Chatto pointed the importance of TechVoc in ensuring job security during the 5th Commencement Exercises of scholars under the Special Training for Employment Program (STEP).

Forty two scholars from the province’s first district completed their 168-hour course on Bread and Pastry Production NCII on Friday, Mar. 12, 2021.

The scholars received their certificates from Technical Education Skills Development Authority (TESDA) in a graduation ceremony that was done through Skype, a report from the Office of Cong. Chatto says.

Chatto, collaborated with TESDA, implemented the program intended to provide training and employment for the disadvantaged sector to address poverty in the informal sector.

Chatto explained that due to the pandemic, the use of skills acquired under the program is an advantage in terms of opportunities for livelihood.

“The challenge to the economy is great especially amid the pandemic but skills development opens opportunities for employment and livelihood,” he said. Chatto encouraging the scholars to put their acquired skills to good use.

The scholars for their part expressed appreciation for the privilege granted to them through the scholarship program.

Academic Excellence Awardee Erika Labonog spoke on behalf of co-trainees, thanked Chatto for the latter’s consistent support enabling the scholars to avail the TESDA program.

A total of 340 scholars benefitted from the scholarship training program in technical vocational courses last year, a report from Chatto’snoffice says.

The courses offered last year included Trainer’s Methodology I, Tourism Promotions NC II, Bookkeeping NC III, Caregiving NC II, Driving NC II, Housekeeping NC II, and Cookery NC II.

TESDA partnered with Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) providers that include Amici Initiati, Inc.; St. Martha Skills Training and Assessment Center; Advance School for International Hospitality Services, Inc.; CMC Institute of Business Management, Skills Training and Assessment Center, Inc.; Fil-Canadian Training and Development Center for Caregivers, Inc.; Bohol Tech Voc, Inc.; Bohol Island State University- Calape Campus; and the TESDA Provincial Training Center-Tubigon to provide training to scholars.

Furthermore, TESDA tapped CA-LIM Training and Assessment Center to train the latest batch of graduates of Bread and Pastry Production course.
