A man allegedly possessing a fake polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test gets arrested by Tagbilaran port police.
The report of the arrest of a person allegedly possessing a fake PCR result comes at the heels of the report by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) where two persons in Cebu were arrested for purportedly producing fake test results.
According to the police report, Tagbilaran port police arrested a certain Alfie Sumampong, 28, of Poblacion Bacolod, Lanao del Norte, but residing in barangay Pit-os, Cebu City.
The report further states that port police detected that the PCR test result in the possession of the suspect was allegedly fake.
The report adds that the suspect narrated to the police investigators that when he arrived at Pier 1 in Cebu City, a certain alyas “Baguio” and a certain alyas “Pakdoy” offered a document showing a negative PCR test result for P2,150, which is cheaper compared to the actual cost of a PCR test.
As of this writing, the suspect is under the custody of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).
It was reported last week that the NBI in Central Visayas busted two persons for allegedly manufacturing fake PCR tests.
In a press briefing former NBI-Bohol chief and now NBI Central Visayas regional director Renan Augustus Oliva reported that his men arrested two suspects allegedly involved in the fake PCR racket.
Oliva said the NBI acted on a tip by San Miguel, Bohol mayor Virgilio Mendez. Mendez who gave information to the NBI about the racket.
Incidentally, Mendez is a former national director of the NBI.
The NBI arrested Rogelio Nebres the alleged middleman of the scheme and the owner of the shop allegedly manufacturing the fake PCR, Rakim Sultan Busara. The NBI arrested Nebres after he transacted with an undercover agent. Nebres led the NBI agents to the whereabouts of Busara. The NBI then conducted another entrapment operation resulting to Busara’s arrest.
