Reports say that an inmate of the Bohol District Jail (BDJ) died after getting infected by the virus which causes the Coronavirus disease (Covid).
According to reports, BDJ warden Chief Insp. Josephus Jelianggao said the male inmate who was 34 years old, succumbed to complications brought about by Covid infection while admitted at the Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital (GCGMH).
The latest fatality is the 27th Covid-related death in Bohol.
According to the warden, the inmate was brought to the hospital after having difficulty breathing on March 16, 2021 and died at GCGMH on March 21, 2021.
The inmate reportedly had lung disease problems. He was tested for Covid upon arrival at the GCGMH and initially tested negative.
A second test was conducted on March 19, 2021, in which the inmate yielded a positive polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test result, reports say.
The warden said the good thing is that the inmate was negative upon arrival at the hospital from the jail.
Prior to the death of the said inmate, there have been no recorded cases of Covid at the BDJ.
Since last year, the BDJ has been placed under lockdown where inmates’ visitors are only allowed to bring food and medicines on weekends.
Meanwhile, a person from barangay Booy also died due to Covid, according to Tagbilaran City Mayor John Geesnell Yap.
The fatality from barangay Booy is the first Covid-related death recorded in Tagbilaran City since the start of the community quarantine.
