Several former rebels who used to be members of the New People’s Army (NPA) currently present their stand against the NPA . They staged an indignation rally in Trinidad town March 29, 2021 to condemn the alleged illegal activities of the armed component of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP).
The former rebels including some members of farmer groups came together for a protest rally in front of the Trinidad town hall. The rally coincided with the NPA’s 52nd founding anniversary last Monday.
The Philippine Army’s 47th Infantry Battalion (IB), in a statement, said that around 100 persons joined the said indignation rally.
The event started at 9 a.m. with a motorcade from barangay Soon and ended in barangay San Vicente of the same town.
A former rebel, Antonio Muring, chairman of the League of Filipino Students-Bohol and former Anakbayan spokesperson, urged the public to distance themselves from the NPA and to refuse providing support to the communist terrorist groups (CTGs), which he describes as a group following a “misguided” ideology.
He added that the rebel movement is drawing followers to nowhere and should be stopped from ruining the lives of the recruits.
The province used to be a rebel stronghold in the 2000s but has since declared as insurgency-free in 2010.
