The Fish Visayas Project of the Afos Foundation through its local partner, the Bohol Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) represented by its Executive Assistant Rolaine Bautista Uy, turns over two (2) underwater cameras and six (6) pieces of goggles (protective glasses) to the City Government, according to a report from the City Media Bureau.
City Mayor John Geesnell Yap Ii personally received the donations along with Tagbilaran City’s First Lady Jane Yap, and City Agrivet Officer Dr. Genette Egos, the same report adds.
The underwater gadgets will be used in the monitoring and surveillance activities relative to the Kinubkuban Reef, Tagbilaran City’s 4th marine sanctuary.
It can be remembered that the City Agrivet Office under Dr. Genette Egos led the inauguration of Kinubkuban Marine Reef Sanctuary in barangay Taloto with Mayor Yap last month.
Prior to the inauguration in barangay Taloto, the Fish Visayas Project of the Afos Foundation and the BCCI donated materials for the demarcation of the reef.
During the activity, the local chief executive pointed out that the initiative is crucial in the protection of the environment which can also provide the much-needed economic activity for the fishermen in the area.
An ordinance sponsored by City Councilor Glovasa declared Kinubkuban Reef as a marine sanctuary.
The ordinance outlined the rules and regulations which would govern the management and operations in the reef.
With the ordinance in place, the reef will be protected and conserved, along with the sustainability of its aquatic resources. A management council will also be established to oversee the long-term plan for the marine sanctuary.
The City Agrivet Office, the Philippine National Police, the Philippine Coast Guard, the law enforcement officers of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Department of Agriculture (DA), Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) and the barangay officials of barangay Taloto are all authorized to enforce the ordinance.
