The Diocese of Talibon will gradually abolish the arancel system or the system of charging fixed rates for sacraments, according to Bishop Patrick Daniel Y. Parcon.
In a decree, he said the gradual abolition of the arancel in his diocese will start on May 1, 2021.
“I, after having listened to and consulted the People of God, do hereby decree that there will no longer be fixed amount for the sacraments of baptism, confirmation, wedding (regular schedule) and Holy Mass (funeral, wake, fiesta masses and Pontifical Masses) in the Diocese of Talibon; the Arancel System is hereby gradually abolished,” Parcon said in a decree.
Moreover, the bishop said, voluntary offerings that are freely given are appreciated.
He added that to replace the arancel system, each parish must implement a Parish Support System via offerings donated to the Church without fixed amount.
“Like any normal family, every member of the diocese, parish and basic ecclesial community (BEC) has the duty to support the Church in the fulfillment of Her mission,” the bishop explained.
Parcon issued the decree on March 29, 2021.
The Catholic Church in the Philippines this year marks the 30th anniversary of the 2nd Plenary Council of the Philippines, which mandated the gradual abolition of the arancel system.
