CHED commends Chatto for collaborating with agency

The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Central Visayas office in a hybrid limited face-to-face and virtual awarding ceremonies yesterday, May 22, 2021, cited Bohol’s first district Rep. Edgar Chatto for the latter’s support and willingness to collaborate with the former in promoting quality and excellent higher education here in the province, according to reports.

Cong. Edgar Chatto was among individual collaborators and supporters given a citation for his active involvement and full support to various programs of the CHED.

In his virtual message of response, Chatto expressed gratitude to CHED led by Chairman J. Prospero De Vera and Regional Director Maximo Aljibe for the gesture of appreciation and for the consistent partnership and support in the promotion of excellent and quality higher education particularly in Bohol.

The CHED in a report also commended the Bohol Island State University (BISU) for being a top performing school in the country with at least 80% passing percentage in the Philippine Regulatory Commission licensure examinations for electrical engineers, master electrician, civil engineers, and professional elementary teachers.

Meanwhile, Holy Name University was presented with a plaque for Institutional Excellence and Program Excellence as Center of Development.

Chatto was awarded along with Atty. Augusto Go, University of Cebu president; Dr. John Henry Caballero, Cebu Technological University president; Atty. Paulino Yabao, University of Southern Philippines president; Dr. Betty McCann, Silliman University president; National Economic Development Authority(NEDA) Regional Director Efren Carreon; Fr. Christopher Maspara, University of San Jose Recoletos president; Dr. Filomena Dayagbil, Cebu Normal University president; Dr. Francis Dy, Hello Marketing Owner/Manager; Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella; Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia; Regional Development Council chairperson Kenneth Cobonpue; Dr. Enrico Gruet, Cebu Doctor’s University Vice President-Academics; Cebu City Councilor Joel Garganera; Presidential Assistant to the Visayas Michael Lloyd Dino; Cebu 5th District Cong. Duke Frasco; and Dr. Jovenal Toring, Indiana School of Aeronautics president.

The awarding was held during the celebration of the first ever National Higher Education Day and CHED’s 27th Anniversary.

Republic Act 7722 created CHED and Republic Act 11522 declares May 18 of every year as National Higher Education Day to commemorate founding anniversary of CHED.

The week-long celebration kicked off on May 17, 2021 with the online ceremony to formally open the national and regional activities, noteworthy webinars of conferences, symposia and training programs lined up for the said celebration.
