LGU Anda throws support to ZSL‘s Ocean Month activity

The local government unit (LGU) of Anda throws its support to an activity celebrating Ocean Month led by the Zoological Society of London Philippines (ZSL), which includes a a coastal clean up.

In a telephone interview on Saturday, May 29, 2021, Anda mayor Metodio Amper said he is glad that the ZSL, in cooperation with the Provincial Government of Bohol (PGBh) has chosen the town as the venue of the activity.

For its part, the LGU provided some logistical support and lent its personnel to participate in the activity.

Based on the information received by The Bohol Tribune the activity will be held on Monday, May 31, 2021, at Quinale Beach Resort in Anda town. The activity is being spearheaded by the ProCoast project of the ZSL.

According to Joel A. Erediano, the site cluster coordinator of the  ProCoast project of the ZSL, May is designated as the “Month of the Ocean” and is intended to highlight the conservation, protection and sustainable management of Philippine coastal and ocean resources. 

ZSL‘s ProCoast project mobilizes its partner agencies and organizations to observe the Month of the Ocean through the said activity.

Erediano added that the ProCoast selected Anda as the venue of the Month of thr Ocean activities because of the responsiveness of the LGU in protecting the environment of the seas. He also cited the LGU’s good practices in marine and environmental conservation.

At least 45 participanrtsfrom the PGBh, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), members of people’s organizations, civil society groups and some divers are expected to participate in the activities in Anda tomorrow, Erediano bared to The Bohol Tribune.

Aside from a coastal clean-up, divers will also conduct an underwater clean-up, and a gallery will be put up to showcase success stories and innovation related to climate change adaptation, mitigation and environmental protection.

Erediano said the program related to the activity will be held at an open-air venue  as the organizers commit to comply with the minimum health standards.
