Boholano Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire defeated French boxer Nordine Quibaali via a 4th round knockout on Sunday, May 30, 2021, to bag the World Boxing Council (WBC) bantamweight title, according to reports.
The match was held at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carlson, California, USA, and presented by Premier Boxing Championship, the same report bares.
The Talibon-born Donaire, 38, became the oldest fighter to win a major bantamweight title, the report bares.
He just came from an 18-month hiatus following his defeat in the hands of Naoya Inoue.
In the fight, Donaire showed no signs of being affected by the long rest and ended the fight with a left uppercut that floored Oubaali, the report mentions.
With the win, Donaire improved his win-loss card to 41-6 with 27 knockouts. On the other hand, Oubaali absorbed his first career loss after 18 matches.
Before the knockout that ended the match in the 4th round, Donaire managed to knockdown Oubaali twice in the 3rd round. Oubaali was never knocked down in his boxing career prior to Sunday’s, May 30, 2021, match.
Meanwhile, Donaire’s win opens the possibility of a rematch against Japanese boxer Inoue, who is the current International Boxing Federation (IBF), World Boxing Federation (WBF) and Ring Magazine bantamweight champion.
