After Bohol was named as the second province in the country to pilot the Province-led Agriculture and Fisheries Extension System (PAFES), the Provincial Government of Bohol (PGBh) has started to orient the Municipal Agriculture Officers (MAO), the different chairpersons of the Committee of Agriculture in the different Sangguniang Bayans and the different chairpersons of the Barangay Councils all over Bohol, in relation to the rollout of the said program of the Department of Agriculture (DA).
The orientation aims to let the said officials be involved in agriculture to focus their efforts and policies to the commodities backed by the PGBh. These personalities are enjoined by the provincial government to align their programs with the PAFES in order to be given the ample funding support, according to a report from the Provincial Information and Media Relations (PRIMER) office.
The same report also said that an orientation regarding this matter was held on Friday, June 11, 2021, with the MAO, and the chairpersons of the Committee on Agriculture of the Sangguniang Bayan of Clarin and Buenavista. It was also reported that the chairperson of the Committee on Agriculture of the different barangays of the said towns were also in attendance.
During the meeting at the Ceremonial Hall of the Capitol, the provincial officials enjoined the town and barangay officials to align their efforts and policies on the focused commodities such as rice, corn, rootcrops, coconut, fishery products, dairy, poultry and livestock.
The PGBh pushed one of the agenda of the PAFES which includes the modernization of the farm machineries.
Corn, rootcrops and coconut are key ingredients in the making of feeds which in turn help bring down the production cost for livestock and poultry, according to the report.
On June 4, 2021, Gov. Arthur Yap presented the province’s agri-fishery plans to Agriculture Sec. William Dar. An impressed Dar immediately named Bohol as one of the pilot provinces of the PAFES.
