Tagbilaran’s Poblacion 1 barangay capt Arlene Karaan is being lauded for her humility in saying “sorry” for an oversight that resulted to heavy traffic at the Causeway area as a bike race was conducted on Tuesday, June 22, 2021.

Karaan made the statement during an interview over Open Forum program on Tuesday, hosted by Ardy Araneta-Batoy and Dave Albarado.

Karaan said she did not expect the number of bikers that showed up in the race (which her baranay organized) which was estimated to be more than 200 participants.

She apologized for the oversight which resulted to a heavy traffic causing delays and people getting late for work.

Karaan stressed that she was able to get the go signal to conduct the bike race from City Administrator Cathelyn Torremocha.

However, Torremocha said in a separate interview, also on Tuesday that she did not issue any clearance for the conduct of the said bike race.

One of the affected roads where there was a bottleneck of commuters, drivers, and other people, was along the causeway area at Tototaln Dauis, Bohol. For her part, Dauis mayor Marietta Sumaylo said she did not issue any clearance for the said event but admitted having given a go signal to the bikers to pass through the roads of barangay Totolan. Sumaylo also expected that the barangay officials were supposed to be the ones who would have informed the public about the race.

The said race was part of barangay Poblacion 1’s 26th anniversary celebration, according to reports.
