Third district Cong. Alexie Tutor pointed out on Tuesday, June 30, 2021 the need to ensure better benefits to nurses working locally especially in private health care facilities.
Tutor made the statement during a radio interview over NEWSMAKERS on Tuesday.
She said while nurses working in government hospitals get competitive compensation and benefits, the benefit and compensation packages given to nurses in some private institutions are left to be desired.
For this reason, many nurses opt to either look for jobs abroad or employed in business process outsourcing (BPO).
She said while the country cannot compete with the lucrative benefits provided abroad to our nurses, there is a need to at least make the offer here acceptable to the nurses.
Tutor said with the pandemic, the country needs more nurses to take care of patients especially those who are infected by the Coronavirus disease (Covid).
Earlier, Tutor urged the Comission on Higher Education (CHED) to finally lift its 11-year moratorium on new nursing programs in order to train more students to become nurses, which could help in providing adequate manpower in the local healthcare system.
