Guv says he remains on top of Covid situation here

Gov. Arthur Yap said on Monday, July 5, 2021, that he is on top of the situation regarding the spread of the Coronavirus disease (Covid) adding that he is “ not sleeping on the job”.

He made the statement during a radio interview over OPEN FORUM radio program on Monday, hosted by Ardy Araneta-Batoy and Dave Albarado.

At the same time, the govermor chided critics of his administration saying they are focused on making his governance look bad.

He denied the accusations that he is not anymore cautious and strict in the management of the Covid situation because of possible political repercussions especially that the next election is less than a year from now.

The governor said that he engaged in at least 3 meetings last week to get the real score about the Covid situation here.

The governor said several Boholanos are no longer following the minimum health and safety protocol citing a number a of arrests made by the people against the protocol violators.

He also pointed out that there are some local government units (LGUs) which are no longer implementing the proper isolation, contact tracing, and containment protocol activitiies.

The governor added that some LGUs are already allowing home isolation which is being discouraged by the Department of Health (DOH).

Moreover, there are at least 10 LGUs which are no longer testing asymptomatic close contacts of confirmed positive Covid patients.

It was also learned in the meeting, according to the governor, that the isolation facilities in the LGUs are underutilized resulting to some mild or moderate cases being admitted in some Tagbilaran hospitals, which should not be the case.

Furthermore, the contact tracing activities are slow which allow some possible infected persons to roam free and become superspreaders of the virus.

It was also revealed that some LGUs, even if they are implementing granular lockdowns, they are not observing proper containment protocol to prevent the further spread of the virus.

In the same program, Bohol Inter Agency Task Force (BIATF) spokesman Dr. Cesar Tomas Lopez said it is unfair to accuse the authorities of being unable to contain the situation as they have been working on almost a 24/7 status. He added that the BIATF has been remindijg the people through the Rural Health Units about the things to do to prevent infections.

Meanwhile, Lopez said placing Bohol under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) has plenty of implications and there is a need for the concurrence of the national Inter Agency Task Force before drastic measures can be implemented here, according to Lopez.
