Gov. Arthur Yap on Monday, July 5, 2021, met with officials of telecommunication companies (telco) to talk about how to improve the internet speed and connectivity in the province, according to a report from the Provincial Information and Media Relations (PRIMER) office.

The officials from Smart, Globe and Dito Telecommunity were on hand in the said meeting to discuss how to expand internet service coverage to the remote places in the province.

The meeting seeks to forge strategies to provide coverage especially in public spaces such as plazas, town halls, schools, and farm lands where internet connection is badly needed, the report says.

It is expected that the telco players and the provincial government with the private sector will again meet next week in order to craft a memorandum of understanding for the implementation of the expansion of internet coverage in remote areas in the province, the report adds.

For his part, Yap said that improved telco coverage is an integral part of the solution against criminality and a way to help businesses, the tourism Industry, agriculture, educational institutions flourish.

He added that improved telco coverage can also help in the seamless provision of medical emergency response especially in remote areas of Bohol.
