Vice Gov. Rene Relampagos backs the blood donation program here, which is a joint project of the Provincial Government of Bohol (PGBh), and the Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital (GCGMH).

The program is in support the move of the national government in providing adequate, safe and quality supply of blood under the iNational Voluntary Blood Service Program (NVBSP).

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Bohol (SP) headed Relampagos recently authorized Gov. Arthur Yap to sign the Memorandum of Agreement with GCGMH in support of the NVBSP and Republic Act No. 7719.

The said law primarily promotes voluntary blood donations as a means to provide a sufficient supply of safe blood and to regulate blood banks.

The law also aims to encourage the efficient utilization of blood resources among blood service facilities.

According to the proposed Memorandum of Agreement, four (4) province-owned hospitals  will serve as blood stations and blood collecting units.

The hospitals under the program are the Garcia Memorial Provincial Hospital in Talibon, Cong. Simeon G. Toribio Memorial Hospital in Carmen, Catigbian District Hospital and Teodoro B. Galagar Hospital in Jagna. The hospitals will be included in the network of GCGMH and licensed by the Department of Health (DOH) to collect, process, test and distribute quality blood products.

Meanwhile, Relampagos said the program will be of significant help for those who are in need of blood. This program will help address the growing need and supply of safe blood in the province and envisions that no patient will be turned away because of the lack of blood supply.
