Guv expects Delta Variant’s arrival in Bohol; warns people to be tightly careful

The arrival of the dreaded Delta Variant is no longer a question of how it will get here but a question of when it will get into Bohol.

For this reason, Gov. Arthur Yap already expects that the more transmissible variant of the virus that causes the Coronavirus disease (Covid) will eventually make its entry into Bohol. He then warns the people to be extra careful to avoid catching the tremendously transmissible virus variant.

In a statement released on July 23, 2021, the governor said the entry of the virus variant, which was first detected in India, will eventually reach Bohol’s shores and cause infections to Boholanos.

“It is a matter of time before the Delta Variant reaches Bohol,” the governor said in a statement.

As this developed, the governor has ordered the mayors to prioritize the vaccine rollout to senior citizens and overseas Filipino workers (OFW), which is part of the plan to contain the possible spread of the dreaded virus variant.

“We must double the numbers [of those vaccinated] in two weeks’ time. We have to increase our vaccinations quickly to protect against the delta variant,” Yap said.

While the vaccines constitute Bohol’s solution against the virus’ spread, just like any other province, Bohol is heavily dependent on the vaccine supply coming from the national government.

The national government on July 19, 2021 delivered 50,000 doses of Johnson & Johnson vaccine to Bohol.

The governor said the vaccines should be rolled out to senior citizens, OFWs and persons with co-morbidities.

He added that local government units with high Covid cases and remote areas of Bohol will get the vaccines.

It was reported that all towns including Tagbilaran City each received a share of the J&J vaccine supply.

Yesterday, July 24, 2021, Tagbilaran City completed its vaccine rollout on those included in the A4 priority list, which includes drivers, security guards, market vendors, workers in hotels and restaurants among others, according to a report from the City Media Bureau.
