The administration of the anti-Coronavirus disease (Covid) vaccines among the Persons with Disability (PWDs) in Tagbilaran kicked off the week-long celebration of the 43rd National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week, which started on July 17 and ended on July 23, 2021, according to a report from the City Media Bureau.
This year’s celebration’s had a theme of “Kalusugan at Kaunlaran ng Pilipinong May Kapansanan, Isulong sa Gitna ng Pandemya”.
The opening ceremony of the activity took place at the Saulog Gymnasium with City Mayor John Geesnell Yap II and Gugma Tagbilaran Founder Jane Yap gracing the event.
There were several other activities conducted in conjunction with the National Disability Week celebrations such as the sign language training conducted by Deaf Association in Tagbilaran and the Livelihood Fair in the City Hall Grounds.
The Livelihood Fair presented the different products made by the PWDs in Tagbilaran.
Mayor Yap in his message stressed the value of the said event.
“Activities like these tells us to be mindful of the needs of our brothers and sisters with special needs. It is just timely to focus on the health and economic empowerment of persons with disabilities during this time of COVID-19 pandemic. This weeklong event is geared to stimulate public awareness on the issues and problems of disability, encouraging every citizen to take active responsibility in the upliftment of the economic and social conditions of all persons with disabilities (PWDs) in our society,” Mayor Yap said.
