The red tide problem persists in the Tagbilaran-Dauis Bay as the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) released its latest shellfish bulletin on July 22, 2021.
In the said bulletin, the presence of the paralytic shellfish poison is still detected in the waters of the said places.
The said toxin’s level is beyond the regulatory limit, the BFAR said in the same bulletin.
Harvesting all types of shellfish including small shrimps called oyap/ujap in the said body of water is prohibited as they are NOT SAFE for human consumption, the BFAR warns.
However, fish, squid, crab and shrimps are all safe to consume provided that all of the entrails are removed and the said seafoods are thoroughly washed with running water before cooking.
The red tide problem in the said body of water between Dauis and Tagbilaran City has been going on for three straight years, according to BFAR‘s data.
