Dr. Bryan Cepedoza

One of the top pulmonologists in the country said that all vaccines being offered to Boholanos are effective against hospitalization due to Coronavirus disease (Covid).

Boholano pulmonologist Dr. Bryan Cepedoza made the statement in a radio interview over NEWSMAKERS radio program on Aug. 3, 2021, hosted by Ardy Araneta-Batoy and Dave Albarado.

Cepedoza said that all vaccines only vary in terms of effectiveness in preventing mild or moderate cases of Covid, but all vaccines are able to prevent hospitalization due to severe Covid.

He emphasized that the goal of the vaccines is to keep people from getting too sick from Covid and end up in a hospital.

He also said that by keeping Covid patients away from hospitals, the health care system will not be overwhelmed, which has been a problem in some countries are facing the impact of the Delta variant of the Covid virus, the doctor said during the interview.

Vaccines, Cepedoza explained, provide longer lasting protection against Covid compared to the immunity or protection following a natural infection.

Thus, he totally recommend people to get vaccinated as there is a possibility that everyone will eventually get infected with Covid, if the community or the country will be unable to attain herd immunity.

Cepedoza explained that herd immunity can be attained only if 70% of the population is fully vaccinated, which in turn will also protect those who are not vaccinated and finally end the pandemic.

Meanwhile, Cepedoza said that there is no indication yet that the Delta variant is deadlier than the original variant that emerged in Wuhan, China.

Cepedoza further stated that the current variant of concern, which is the Delta variant, is more contageous, thus end up infecting more people with greater chance of causing severe Covid infection especially to vulnerable sectors of society, which are the senior citizens and persons with co morbidity.
