Tagbilaran mayor John Geesnell Yap II issues a statement saying only 1 case of the Delta variant of the Coronavirus disease (Covid) has been detected here correcting his earlier pronouncement that there are 5 Delta variant cases.
In a Facebook post in the morning of Aug. 16, 2021, Yap said he received information that there is only 1 case of Delta variant detected in Tagbilaran.
The mayor in a post said those who provided the information to the city made the mistake of saying there are 5 Delta variant cases when it turns out that only 1 case of Delta variant has been officially detected here. He said the one infected with the Delta variant is from barangay Ubujan.
According to reports, City Health Officer (CHO) Dr. Jeia Pondoc said that the person from Ubujan infected with the Delta variant already recovered from Covid.
The Covid patient from Ubujan is the first confirmed case of the Delta variant eported in Bohol.
The report of the presence of the Delta variant comes as Bohol has been implementing border control, which is aimed to delay the entry of the said variant in Bohol.
The border closure started on Aug. 6, 2021 until Aug. 20, 2021, based on an executive order of Gov. Arthur Yap.
