Gov. Arthur Yap engaged in a workshop discussing on Aug 17, 2021 the possibility of establishing a smart sustainable city in the province, according to a report released by the office of the Provincial Information and Media Relations (PRIMER).
The meeting was also attended by representatives of the Smart Telecommunications company.
The governor supports the plan of Smart Telecoms to create a smart city in the province as this would boost the local economy, the report says.
Yap said that there is a need to support the information and communication technology industry to empower the workers in the creative economy workers in the province.
He said that progressive cities in the world nurture creative economic workers as they have spending capacity, which in turn stimulates local economic growth.
The governor added that increased spending can also help other industries such as agriculture and tourism.
A smart city means an area that has developed infrastructure in terms of communication and connectivity, the governor explained.
The workshop started on Aug. 17, 2021 and ended on Aug. 18, 2021, the PRIMER report bares.
