Chatto files House Resolution lauding Magsayo

First District Representative Edgar Chatto filed House Resolution 2151 as soon as session reopened in Congress on August 23, 2021, which lauds the exploits of boxer Mark Magsayo after winning his bout against his Mexican foe on Aug. 22, 2021.

The resolution Chatto filed expressed the highest statements of congratulations and commendation to Magsayo, who defended his World Boxing Organization (WBO) International Featherweight title in a spectacular knockout fashion against Julio Ceja in an undercard event at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Magsayo, a native of Tagbilaran City, started boxing at the age of eight and became a professional boxer at 18 years old after fighting in more than 200 amateur boxing events and winning four championships under the auspices of Alliance of Boxing Associations of the Philippines (ABAP).

Magsayo first earned the WBO International Featherweight Championship title in a fight against US boxer Chris Avalos on April 23, 2016. He has since successfully defended the title against Mexican Jose Aaron Ramiro Robles in 2016, Nicaraguan Daniel Diaz and Japanese Shota Hayashi in 2017, and most recently against Mexican boxer Ceja.

The resolution said Magsayo brought pride to the country; exemplifies passion, dedication, hard work, and commitment; and is a hero, an inspiration and a model to the Filipino youth.

Chatto, having begun his public service as a youth leader, maintains it is important to support the holistic development of the youth, the Boholano youth in particular, including in the area of sports.

“Sports develops leadership and character skills that hone the youth to realize their full potential,” Chatto said, commending local government units, led by Tagbilaran City for strongly supporting sports programs for both in and out of school youth.
