Survey says Baba is 2nd best mayor in Central Visayas

RP-Mission and Development Foundation (RPMD), an independent organization conducted a non-commissioned nationwide survey with a total of 10,000 respondents, and released the survey results showing Tagbilaran City mayor John Geesnell Yap as the second best mayor in Central Visayas.

According to reports, the respondents were asked: “Do you approve/ disapprove of the way your mayor is handling his job?”

Yap was ranked 2nd in the survey with a 70% approval rating next to Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes with 71%.

In the said survey, it showed that coming at 3rd place was Mayor Pryde Henry Teves of Bayawan City, Negros Oriental with 69.5% rating, followed by Mayor Felipe AntonIo Remollo of Dumaguete City with 69.1% ranking and at 5th place was Mayor Junard Chan of Lapu-Lapu City with 68% rating.

The Executive Director of the RPMD, Dr. Paul Martinez, said that the ratings and rankings were greatly dependent on the Local Chief Executive’s performances.

“The expectations and duties of the mayors are extensive and encompasses several roles being the Local Chief Executive – supervise and implement all policies and programs, projects and services of the [local government unit] LGU, enforce all laws and ordinances in relation to the governance of the city, and initiate and maximize the generation of resources and revenues and use these for implementing plans. Most importantly, addressing and responding to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic – those who ranked 1-5 should be recognized and commended for performing well”, Martinez said.
