In line with upholding the constitutional right to health of every Boholano without any exceptions the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) led by Vice Governor Rene Lopez Relampagos has approved, en masse, a resolution requesting Gov. Arthur C. Yap to facilitate the vaccination of Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) inside the Bohol Detention and Rehabilitation Center (BDRC) and the personnel managing the said facility.

Introduced by the president of the Philippine Councilors’ League (PCL) – Bohol, Board Member Jescelo Adiong, the resolution seeks, among others, to ask the governor to include in the priority list the PDLs and personnel of the BDRC in the ongoing vaccination drive.

According to Relampagos, the reason for the request is due to the fact that the said facility is hosting PDLs more than the supposed capacity.

According to reports, the BDRC is only designed to accommodate a maximum of 325 inmates.

However, based on information gathered by the SP, the BDRC is now very crowded and has already exceeded its maximum capacity.

At present, the BDRC is accommodating 665 PDLs, a number which is more than double of its maximum capacity.

Furthermore, Relampagos quipped that considering the threat of the Coronavirus disease (Covid) virus spread that may happen in a crowded area, it is only fitting to inoculate the inmates.

As this developed, the board members acted on the matter to prevent possible infections if ever one of these inmates will catch Covid.

According to Relampagos, the SP has already asked Yap about their plan to inoculate the PDLs.

The governor considered the SP’s request stating that the move of the board members is proper and timely at this time of the pandemic.
