MECQ possible for Bohol, if Covid situation does not improve, says Guv

Gov. Arthur Yap

Gov. Arthur Yap said that it is possible that if the Coronavirus disease (Covid) situation will not improve in the next 2 weeks, he may suggest to the national Inter Agency Task Force (IATF) to place Bohol under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ).

He released the statement during a radio interview over Newsmakers Ug Uban Pa on Sept. 13, 2021, hosted by Ardy Araneta-Batoy and Gloria Leodivica Araneta.

The governor said that he would suggest the stricter quarantine restriction as the number of cases here remains high and the health care facilities in Bohol are filled to the brim, despite the province being under general community quarantine (GCQ).

“Ug sa akong tan-aw in the next 2 weeks, if the situation will not change, we will go to MECQ. If the situation does not change within the next 2 weeks I will recommend that we will go to MECQ,” the governor told the listeners of the Newsmakers Ug Uban Pa radio program.

MECQ is a level lower than ECQ where ECQ is the strictest form of quarantine restriction.

The governor chided the seemingly lack of discipline among some Boholanos who continue disregard protocol and seemingly are unaware of the Covid situation in the province.

He bared that around 10 to 12 patients each day are being refused admission at Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital (GCGMH) because there are no spaces left for them. These people stay at the emergency room, awaiting for the admission slot in the said hospital.

“Kitang kita nato karong panahuna nga dili na nato makaya ni, kun pasagdan nato ni. Kun muingon tang tanan nga let it be, and what will happen sige pa, madugangangan pa ang pagsaka sa mga kaso nato sa lalawigan sa mga umaabot nga mga semana,” Yap said.

He pointed out that there are more mild and moderate cases reported lately and less cases are touted to be asymptomatic.

It means that unlike before, there are more cases today that are showing symptoms than before, the governor explained.
