SP approves project for unemployed, out-of-school youth

In an effort to reinforce the programs of the Provincial Government of Bohol (PGBh) geared towards youth development, Vice Governor Rene Lopez Relampagos and the members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) approved on Tuesday, September 14, 2021, two separate resolutions that gave authority to Governor Arthur Yap, to enter into agreements that are related to youth development programs.

The resolutions gave authority to the governor to enter into a partnership with Bohol Island State University (BISU) and Philippine Business for Education, Inc. (PBEd, Inc.) to promote skills development for the unemployed and out-of-school youth in Bohol.

Under the program, BISU main campus agrees, among others, to assist the Laum Bohol program of the PGBh in its needs for facilitation, research, psychological processing, and psychological first aid, and other related activities.

In addition, PBEd will assist, among others, in training and contribute its expertise by equipping the youth with competencies to succeed in life.

According to a report from the SP, the PBEd is the business community’s response to the need for sustained and strategic education reform in the Philippines. It is implementing the Flexible Training for Work program, an innovative training delivery mechanism that includes an interface of Core Skills, Technical-Vocational, and Employability Skills Training.

Meanwhile, one of the sectors under the Laum Bohol program is the “Bansay” which aims to provide training for the youth in various fields that will hone their skills, talents and abilities. It focuses its efforts on empowering the young by providing them a series of training on innovative technologies and enterprises.

Moreover, Relampagos who actively supports youth development and intervention programs, said the project collaboration is a huge help to the overall well-being of Bohol’s younger generations as it will develop, among others, their intellect and social skills which will enable them to lead productive and meaningful lives.

Sangguniang Kabataan Federation President in Bohol, Christian Victor Bolos III, said the program already has a budget as it is part of the five of Laum Bohol sectors.

At present, the PGBh has been continually developing programs geared towards promoting the well-being of the youth.
