Vice Governor Rene Lopez Relampagos together with the members of the 28th Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Bohol (SP) approved a resolution establishing the Province-led Agriculture and Fisheries Extension System (PAFES) in Bohol.

PAFES is a new venture spearheaded by the Department of Agriculture (DA) serving as the transitional structure for implementing major agricultural programs locally.

Bohol, through the efforts of Gov. Arthur Yap, is among the pioneering provinces that will pilot the said venture.

The PAFES aims to strengthen the delivery of agri-fishery projects at the grassroots level in collaboration with various sectors.

Moreover, through this initiative, the ability of local governments units (LGU) to provide services in the agriculture sector, will potentially improve.

To establish PAFES, the Provincial Government of Bohol (PGBh) will be working with multiple stakeholders such as the Bohol Island State University (BISU), the Provincial Agriculture and Fisheries Council, the National Irrigation Administration (NIA), and the Kapunungan sa Bol-anong Organikong Mag-uuma, among others.

They will provide technical assistance, training, financing, and market linkages to farmers and fisherfolks.

Developing agriculture is key to the continued success of the province, especially at a time when our other key industries are paralyzed due to the pandemic.

With the passage of such resolution, Yap will have the authority to represent the provincial government in signing of a memorandum of agreement in relation to the project.
