This week, we are going to tackle another type of the set of braces called Invisalign.
What Is Invisalign?
The claim to fame of the Invisalign brand is, as its name suggests, aligning the patient’s teeth while being practically hidden from view.
Invisalign specifically uses 18 to 30 tailor-made clear plastic aligners to align your teeth without showing the traditional metal or even ceramic braces.
However, invisalign has its own pros and cons, including the need for a replacement every 2 weeks to get the best results even though this type is removable.
The invisalign is unobtrusive because it is made from clear plastic. One needs a closer inspection to notice that a patient is wearing these “invisible” or “barely visible” dental appliances.
Invisalign costs similar to speed braces but for different reasons altogether. Invisalign’s cost, however, may be higher than that of the ceramic braces, making them the most expensive type of braces.
Invisalign is known to be less effective than metal braces when it comes to solving severe malocclusion such as having the underbite similar to that of a piranha or the overbite which is like that of a rodent.
Invisalign, even if it is a bit expensive, usually is being used for for slight correction of dental problems.
A patient has to pay a fortune to maintain these tailor-made clear braces considering metal braces cost as much as P50,000 or less, depending on your dental service provider.
Invisalign takes 12 months or more to show results.
Children are not supposed to use Invisalign. Children only have an option to go with metal or ceramic braces.
Teenagers and adults are the ones that can use this type of braces.
Children should not wear these devices. It’s the most expensive type of braces option available and it’s removable. It’s not uncommon for children to lose this type of braces, which is quite expensive to replace.
At least metal braces are firmly attached to the teeth and hard to lose.
