Police arrest wanted rape suspect

The members of the Anti-Kidnapping Group (AKG) of the Philippine National Police (PNP) arrested a male blind suspect who is accused of raping a blind woman in Tagbilaran four years ago, reports say on Oct. 12, 2021.

The AKG arrested the suspect identified as Inocencio Namalata Balighot Jr., 42, a blind massage therapist, currently residing in Mandaue City.

The authorities arrested the suspect inside a mall in Mandaue City following a tip on the suspect’s whereabouts. The arrest occurred on Oct. 9, 2021, reports bare.

The police were armed with an arrest warrant issued by Judge Jennifer Marcos of Regional Trial Court (RTC) branch 2 based in Tagbilaran City.

According to reports the alleged crime happened in April, 2017 in Tagbilaran. The victim and suspect, at that time, lived in the same boarding house.

The suspect fled Tagbilaran City following the commission of the alleged crime, reports say.

In his defense, the suspect denied the rape charges, saying he and the victim had intimate relationship because they were lovers.
