BISU celebrates 12th Foundation Day, inaugurates new bldg. in Balilihan

The Bohol Island State University (BISU) celebrated its 12th foundation anniversary on Thursday, Oct. 14, 2021.

Its school officials led by president Dr. Regucivilla Pobar spearheaded the celebration at the BISU- Balilihan campus with the inauguration of a new two-storey, eight-room laboratory building.

Pobar was joined by Balilihan Campus Director Dr. Virgilia Tejada with guests Cong. Edgar Chatto, Balilihan mayor Pureza Veloso-Chatto, Board Members Ricky Masamayor and Aldner Damalerio representing Gov. Arthur Yap and Vice Gov. Rene Relampagos, as well as Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) represented by Assistant District Engr. Fernando Talagsa and BISU officials in the ribbon cutting ceremony.

Cong. Chatto congratulated BISU officials on another milestone for the university.

Chatto recognized prime movers in the conversion of the Central Visayas College of Agriculture, Forestry and Technology

into a state university with its six campuses located in Tagbilaran City, Bilar, Balilihan, Clarin, Candijay, Calape. BISU was created through Republic Act 9722, which Chatto principally authored and was signed into law on Oct. 14, 2009.

Chatto also cited more dreams for the university such as the opening of the College of Medicine next year.

“This complements the expansion of the Gallares Hospital into the Tagbilaran and Cortes Campuses, where BISU-produced doctors can train, after their free medical education,” he stated.

Chatto also shared a proposed establishment of BISU Tourism Institute at the Balilihan Campus, with plans to construct a standard sports complex in a newly acquired 5 hectare lot, a move seen to open sports tourism, farm tourism, even medical tourism in addition to current attractions in the province.

Pobar and Tejada thanked Chatto for the BISU Law and for the many development initiatives he initiated to support BISU’s thrust of excellence in education for Bohol’z higher growth and development.

BISU also honored university public servants during the commemoration of its 12th year as a state university.
