Things to Know about Cosmetic Dentistry
(Part 2)

We now move on to our discussion of the overview of who and what cosmetic dentists are.

Cosmetic dentists are known for their skills to sculpt, reshape, or whiten a patient’s teeth as well as bond teeth prosthetics or veneers over them. Usually, the procedure is done in one visit to the dentist.

Cosmetic dentists may help fix your gums so that they can be seen as healthier than they were before.

Cosmetic dentists may add dental material to a patients gums or teeth, which may include gum grafts, crowns or caps, porcelain veneers or laminates, and bonding dental composite material.

It is also the job of a cosmetic dentist to remove dental materials. They can remove gums or teeth with the goal of improving the appeal or beauty of a person’s face.

Examples of such include enameloplasty, which has something to do with shaving off of the enamel, and gingivectomy, which means the removal of parts of the gums.

Cosmetic dentists are able to perform tasks that can help improve the appearance of your gums and tooth structure by changing its appearance and color. Cosmetic dentists are able to help change the color of the gums via gum depigmentation, laser whitening, and dental bleaching.

A good example of a cosmetic dentist’s work is the improvement of the appearance of one’s face by straightening his/her teeth.

This is called as orthodontics, where a person gets braces in order to correct the bite or to straighten the set of teeth.

Orthodontics can help correct dental problems such teeth misalignment, but the braces used in orthodontics may not be pretty looking.

The cosmetic dentists use the product known as Invisalign, instead of the ugly-looking metal brace. Invisalign can help treat overlapping teeth, or teeth crowding, or spacing of the teeth properly to create a straighter smile without these appearing very visible.

Next week, we will be continuing with our discussion this topic about the cosmetic dentists.
