Mary Joy (left) picks up a ball showing what she can do with her new prosthetic hands. She is being supervised by Beethoven Sentillas (right) of the Rehabilitation Department of the Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital (GCGMH) as seen in the photo. On Oct. 26, 2021, the GCGMH Rehabilitation Dept. launched its Functional Upper Proximity Prosthesis Center. This means that people, like Mary Joy, who lost their upper limbs may become independent and be able to enjoy life again by having prosthesis in place of the missing upper limbs. Using a 3D printer, the GCGMH may be able to custom-build a prosthesis that will enable a person who lost a limb to become productive and independent. The said center at GCGMH is the first Department of Health facility to offer such service, according to Jeff Real of the GCGMH. Read the concluding story of Mary Joy on page 1. Photo by Jonas Añuver.
