Things to Know about Cosmetic Dentistry
(Part 4)
Let us now discuss one of the most famous services being offered by cosmetic dentists which is teeth whitening.
Is teeth whitening for you?
Patients should know that teeth whitening is an easy, safe, and fast process. It is effective in making almost anyone’s smile look nicer.
However, there are cases wherein other cosmetic procedures may provide better results considering your case, such as prosthodontics.
In teeth whitening, the bleaching agent is applied directly to the teeth. The chemical is applied to the teeth until the color lightens to the desired shade and then it is washed.
Meanwhile, laser whitening works by activating the bleaching chemical, making it seven times more effective than using the bleaching chemical alone.
Laser whitening is the procedure that uses an argon laser beam. The laser is supposed to hasten the whitening process by applying laser light to the teeth which already have been receiving the whitening chemical. Usually, cosmetic dentists use hydrogen peroxide as the bleaching agent. As the teeth are getting bleached, the gums are protected with the use of a dental dam.
There are over-the-counter teeth whitening products but it is safer and effective to let a cosmetic dentist do the whitening procedure for you. Teeth whitening that is supervised by dentists remain the most highly recommended procedure for lightening teeth that have become yellowed or discolored.
