Ocampo patriarch dies

Rogelio Valdivia Ocampo

Rogelio Valdivia Ocampo the partriarch of the Ocampo family, died on Nov. 5, 2021 at the Holy Name University (HNU) Medical Center due to a lingering illness. He was 81. 
Ocampo was born on Jan. 7, 1940 in Lamitan, Basilan. He retired from work as one of the top officials of Granexport Philippines and CARGILL Philippines.

He is survived by his wife and children. His wife, Estelita Gonzaga – Ocampo. is a columnist of The Bohol Tribune, handling the page Cultural Heritage. She is a certified public accountant and retired as a professor of The University of the Philippines, Tacloban.

The Ocampo children are Estela, Ian Oliver and Irene. Estela is the chief operations officer of the “Interior Crafts of the Islands” in Cebu City. She is married to Raymund L. Fernandez, a retired professor of the University of the Philippines.  Ian Oliver, who is now based in Tacloban, used to be connected with Cargill Philippines before he went into entrepreneurship. He is married to Cherry Alegre of the East West Bank. Irene, the youngest, is a businesswoman who, like Estela, is based in Cebu City. Irene is married to Dave Rey Bagaipo Alaan – connected with the SMART/PLDT group of companies.

All the Ocampo children and grandchildren have already arrived here in Bohol as during the past month, Rogelio expressed his wish to celebrate Christmas with all the members of his family. The grandchildren are: Isagani Isla, Linya Julia and Elias Leon from the Estela – Raymund couple; Ina, Chico and Chino from the Ian Oliver-Cherry couple; and Davin Blue, Denzel Gray, Magenta Margaret and Mareya Amber from the Irene – Dave Rey couple.

Today, Sunday, a mass will be celebrated by Msgr. Vicente Matias Nunag III at 6:00 p.m. at the residence of the Ocampos at Taguihon, Baclayon, Bohol where the remains of Rogelio lie in state.

Immediately after the mass, the family will make true the wish of Rogelio through a short activity called “Celebrating Christmas with Daddy”

Tomorrow, Monday, Nov. 8, 2021, the Immaculadian Choir, to be led by choirmaster Eric Caneta, will provide the hymns during the requiem mass at the Immaculate Conception Parish Church in Baclayon to be officiated by Msgr. Nunag. Immediately after the mass, the interment will take place at the Baclayon Municipal Cemetery.
