Coinciding with the Pres. Carlos Garcia Day celebration on November 4, 2021, fully grown trees numbering to 161 andplaced in containers were distributed to different parts of the city in an effort to increase the green cover in Tagbilaran.

The so-called “Trees in the City” project is in partnership with the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes (PCSO), the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), and Puno, Edukasyon at Para sa Kabuhay (PEP) Philippines, the City Environment and Natural Resources Officer (CENRO) Ceasar Pelaez.

PCSO General Manager Royina Garma in her speech said:“The PCSO is not just a game; it plays a pivotal role in regreening the country. We are happy the Filipinos patronize our games in that way we can share more for our local government units and fund for environmental projects.”

The PCSO, according to Garma can help sustain the project all over the country as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility, “It can be replicated and can cascade in various areas in the country and we are willing to partner with the local government units and the DENR and PEP,” Garma added.

DENR Undersecretary Ed Leonardo who dubbed the activity as tree nurturing said, growing trees in an urban city can be done through a container since it will not eat up spaces but it will be of great help to the environment.

“Everyone has to play a role to clean the air, nurture trees even if we live in an urban city,” Leonardo added.

Leonardo quipped that the 161 fully grown trees distributed “will be nurtured by individuals and establishments to ensure that they are properly taken care of because they are grown up and stable before we released them.”

Each container weighs 300 kilos and contains fertile soil.
As trees grow, they help absorb the carbon  in the air that would otherwise contribute to global warming. A tree captures the carbon dioxide and produces oxygen.

City Mayor John Geesnell Yap II is proud to announce that Tagbilaran City is top performer in the vaccine rollout in Central Visayas.

This was based on the report released by the President and Chief Executive Officer of RFM Corporation, Joey Concepcionz, who is also the Presidential Adviser for Entrepreneurship aside from his being a founder of GO NEGOSYO.
Tagbilaran City also ranked 4th place among areas outside of the National Capital Region (NCR) with the highest percentage of fully-vaccinated residents.

The City Government thru the City Health Office extended its vaccination efforts to 12-17 years old individuals on Nov. 5 and 9, 2021. The activity was done at the Tagbilaran City College and City Central School.

As of Nov. 8, 2021, about 593 minors were inoculated against Covid using the vaccine manufactured by Pfizer.

The city already achieved herd immunity, especially that Tagbilaran City is the commercial center of the Province of Bohol.

MayornYap said that vaccination is one major deterrent on the spread of the Covidninfection.

“Since we have achieved the herd immunity status, the number of infected cases has gone down. Thus, we have always intensified our vaccination efforts. In fact, we have devised creative ways to saturate the vaccination of Tagbilaranons by using the mobile vaccination bus, the vaccination drive-thru, and the barangay-based vaccination. But we should also put in mind that despite the decrease in COVID-19 cases, we should always observe the health protocols like physical distancing, wearing of face masks, and washing of hands. We should never let our guard down,” Mayor Yap said.

City Health Information Officer Robin Reyes Culpa reported that the number of active cases in Tagbilaran City as Nov. 9, 2021 was at 40.

Culpa said that Tagbilaran City already vaccinated more than 80% of its population. Out of the 47 municipalities in Bohol, Tagbilaran City topped the list with 97.99%, followed by Loboc with 48.63%, Lila with 46.77%, Sikatuna with 44.67%, Sevilla with 38.09%, Dimiao with 37.18%, Panglao with 37.13%, Corella with 36.06%, Maribojoc with 35.56%, and San Isidro with 35.17%.
