The Bohol Tribune captured the top spot in newspapering after its news report is bein validated following the move of the presidential daughter to run for vice president. The Bohol Tribune was the only media entity in the country to break the story online on Thursday, Nov. 11, 2021 saying that Davao City mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio declared her intent to become the country’s next vice president.
Many doubted our story as a Facebook page dedicated to Duterte-Carpio tagged The Bohol Tribune’s story as “fake news”.
Some sectors strongly entertained doubt on our story. They have been asking us for more information about the news story bordering into questioning the integrity of our news source.
Yesterday’s events proved that The Bohol Tribune is committed NOT ONLY TO FAIRNESS BUT ALSO TO TRUTH IN NEWS REPORTING.
In the caption for our banner photo, we wrote:
SURE AND SWEET VINDICATION. The Bohol Tribune was accused of spreading fake news when on Thursday, Nov. 11, 2021, it broke the story that Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio (middle) is running for vice president as she is poised to pair with Partido Federal ng Pilipinas presidential bet Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. (left). It was Basta Bol-anon Marcos (BBM) movement chairman Cylwin Bomediano (right) who told The Bohol Tribune that Duterte-Carpio has unofficially announced her bid for vice presidency and that the official announcement will be done not later than yesterday. As The Bphol Tribune posted on its webpage and FB wall this announcement of Bomediano about Duterte-Carpio’s dream to become vice president, the paper did not escape from the sharp beatings of competitors’ scorns and accusations claiming that the BREAKING STORY was simply part of the FAKE NEWS that could have been created from the wild imaginations of its editorial board. Now,The Bohol Tribune’s detractors have to eat back their words and bite their lips from embarrassment, disappointment and shame since the waiting game is over. Duterte-Carpio, as scheduled, filed yesterday, Nov. 13, 2021, her certificate of candidacy (CoC) for vice president under Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD). In effect, Duterte-Carpio’s move vindicated The Bohol Tribune surely and sweetly. It is the only media entity in the entire country that broke the story about the presidential daughter’s political plans. To the doubting Thomases, we say: “Eat our dust, sirs!”
As we said, now, the waiting game is over as Duterte-Carpio filed her certificate of candidacy (CoC) for vice president at the Commission on Elections on Saturday, Nov. 13, 2021.
Multiple reports said that Duterte – Carpio has filed her CoC under the banner of Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (CMD).
As this developed, Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) campaign manager Vic Rodriguez said that Duterte-Carpio is going to be the running mate of Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
The filing of the CoC ends months of speculation whether or not Duterte-Carpio will stay as mayor of Davao City or run for a higher public office.
The Davao City mayor earlier filed her CoC for reelection as Davao mayor only to withdraw it on Nov. 9, 2021.
She also resigned as a member of regional party Hugpong ng Pagbabago on Nov. 10, 2021.
It can be told that it was PFP-Bohol chapter Executive Vice President for External Affairs and chairman of the Basta Bol-anon Marcos (BBM) movement Cylwin Bomediano who relayed to The Bohol Tribune on Thursday evening, Nov. 11. 2021, that Duterte-Carpio announced that she will be running as vice president with Marcos as her running mate.
A theory in communication says, “The sender is the message.” This theory applies well to Bomediano who is known for his integrity and honesty in both public and private service. Never could you hear of any record of Bomediano that will negatively stain his reputation. Deeply religious and God-fearing, he is a devout Catholic who believes in the Power of the Almighty to guide a person in his directions in life. He is presently working hard for the BBM movement in Bohol, even spending his own resources just so his passion of putting the right man in Malacanang will be fulfilled. And he believes that Bongbong Marcos is that right man.
Bomediano said in a radio interview over Open Forum on Nov. 12, 2021 that he is “150%” sure that Duterte-Carpio is running for vice president. The radio program was hosted by Ardy Araneta-Batoy, Atty. Greg Austral and Dave Albarado.
Bomediano, in the same radio interview, repeatedly said that he was 150% sure of the vice presidency bid of Sara Duterte based on the information from a highly placed source within their camp of Marcos for President group.
Bomediano said that Duterte-Carpio made the announcement to close associates that she will be running for vice president. She issued this statement during a wedding reception in Cavite where she was one of the principal sponsors..
True enough, reports say Duterte-Carpio filed her CoC through her representative lawyer Reynold Munsayac.
PFP, yesterday, announced that it will be adopting Duterte-Carpio as its vice presidential bet, according to reports.
Duterte-Carpio, however, has yet to release a statement whether or not she will accept the move of PFP.
According to reports, the Lakas CMD is finalizing the process of naming the party’s presidential bet who will be partnering with Duterte-Carpio.
Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez had candidates from different political parties can campaign and endorse one another. “Yes they can. That is not prohibited by law,” he said in a recent tweet.
Comelec allows the substitution of candidates until tomorrow, Nov. 15, 2021.
Under the Comelec’s rules, substitution is accepted if a candidate dies, withdraws, or is disqualified by the poll agency.
Upon Duterte-Carpio’s withdrawal as Davao City mayoralty bet, her brother Sebastian, is her substitute.
Duterte-Carpio had to resign from Hugpong ng Pagbabago and join Lakas-CMD as only members of a national political party can run for national positions. Hugpong ng Pagbabago is a regional party primarily based in the Davao region.
Duterte-Carpio was supposed to go up against his father’s long-time assistant Sen. Christopher “Bong” Go. Go filed his CoC for vice president under the Partido Demokratiko ng Pilipinas-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) Cusi wing.
However, Go dropped his plan to run for vice president and instead will be running for president. He is running as the presidential bet of the Pederalismo ng Dugong Dakilang Samahan (PDDS).
PDDS is an allied party of the PDP-Laban faction headed by Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi.
“Pangako ko sa inyo, walang isang oras at walang minuto ang masasayang. Magse-serbisyo po ako sa inyong lahat,” Go told reporters in an ambush interview.
The senator will replace PDDS’ placeholder bet Grepor Belgica.
Go’s move came on the same day fellow Sen: Ronald dela Rosa — the standard bearer of PDP-Laban — also withdrew his candidacy for president. Dela Rosa said it was PDP-Laban’s decision for him to withdraw his presidential bid.
Reports said that PDP-Laban Cusi wing party officials explained the move to allow Go to run under PDDS Swas to avoid “legal complications” amid the ongoing row of two PDP-Laban factions.
“To avoid legal complications, we thought it wise na PDDS na lang muna siya,” Cusi said.
Still, Duterte-Carpio needs to contend with other vice presidential candidates such as Reporma’s Sen. Vicente “Tito” Sotto, Sen. Francis Pangilinan of 1sambayan coalition, Lito Atienza of Promdi, and Dr. Willie Ong of Aksyon Demokratikoamong others.
Duterte-Carpio became Davao City’s first female local chief executive in 2010. In 2015, she ran for mayor as a substitute candidate after her father withdrew his reelection bid to run for president in 2016.
Duterte-Carpio is a lawyer by profession prior to entering politics.
Duterte-Carpio comes into the vice presidential derby as the substitute for Lakas-CMD “placeholder” bet Lyle Uy. Duterte-Carpio joined Lakas-CMD only on Nov. 11, 2021.
