Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital (GCGMH) is proud to offer to the people of Bohol and the neighboring provinces its newest service which is the functional upper extremity prosthesis abricated by the hospital’s state-of-the-art 3D printer.

GCGMH recently launched this rehabilitative intervention on October 26, 2021 appropriately titled “HAWID: Kamot sa Kaugmaon, Puno sa Paglaum” where it featured actual demonstration of the functional upper extremity prosthesis on one of its patients who lost both hands.

The patient, known as Mary Joy, was seen holding things and doing other basic activities necessary in daily living.

Behind this welcome development is a dynamic and creative team from the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine of GCGMH headed by Dr. Myrna Plateros and Dr. John Paul Sepe, lead occupational therapists Marianne Dawn Ginete, OTRP and Jeffrey Real, OTRP and Physical Therapist Beethoven Sentillas, PTRP, Maria Rebekah Chiu, OTRP and Josette Jonafe Dagamac-Maller, PTRP.

They are under the guidance and all-out support of GCGMH’s medical center chief, Dr. Mutya Kismet T. Macuno.

At present, GCGMH is the country’s first Department of Health-retained hospital and the only hospital in the Visayas and Mindanao to produce functional upper extremity prosthesis.

With this development, GCGMH continues to stay true to its mission of becoming a premier hospital in this part of the country, providing much-needed healthcare services to Filipinos.
