FL Jane Yap joins Cycle to End Violence Against Women activity

The City Government joined the campaign of the Philippine Commission on Women’s 18-day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW), which is an advocacy campaign being observed annually from Nov. 25 to Dec.12 as mandated by Proclamation 1172 series of 2006.
Gugma Tagbilaran Founder and Tagbilaran City First Lady Jane Yap spearheaded the cause to raise awareness in the city to stop violence against women on Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2021, together with bikers, anti-VAW advocates, and bicycle enthusiasts from all parts of Bohol.
Moreover, other women influencers also joined the activity including entrepreneur and Director for Women Economic Empowerment of SPARK Philippines Dalareich Polot, Tagbilaran City Police Station, Lt. Col. Mary Crystal Peralta, and City Administrator Cathelyn Torremocha.
Additionally, Globe Telecoms gave away raffle prizes and Yap also provided snacks to all the participating bikers.
A Zumba session then followed after the bikers finished the route.
According to the website of the Philippine Commission on Women, VAW is one of the country’s pervasive social problems and various measures and mechanisms have been employed and implemented to address it.
This 18-day Campaign to End VAW program reinforces the Philippine government’s goal of protecting the rights of females, regardless of age, by upholding its commitment to address all forms of gender-based violence as enshrined in the 1987 Constitution.
By virtue of Republic Act 10398, November 25 of every year is designated as the National Consciousness Day for the Elimination of VAWC, or violence against women and children.
Government agencies are mandated to raise awareness on the problem of violence against women.
The campaign aims to promote awareness on the forms of violence being done on women and girls; provide information on laws protecting women and girls; provide anti-VAW-related services; to put in place a prevention and response system on VAW; and gather public support for the campaign.
Tagbilaran City’s livelihood program trains 2nd batch of beneficiaries

Another batch of beneficiaries is being trained in dressmaking and tailoring under the Bangon ug Abante sa Bag-ong Asenso (BABA) Livelihood Project, a report from the City Media Bureau says.
Tagbilaran City’s Livelihood and Development Unit (CLCDU) head Adelfa Salutan said the 1st batch is already set to start the operation of the garments manufacturing hub in the city, while the 2nd set of trainees is busy with the training sessions at the livelihood center in barangay Tiptip.
The trainers from Bohol Island State University (BISU) led by Jo-ann Ingking, Amethyst Lloren, and Nicole Louisse Faustor mentored the 2nd batch of trainees, the report adds.
Moreover, Salutan shared that aside from the skills trainings, the beneficiaries are also provided with trainings on personal and social skills such as values formation, responsible parenting, reproductive dhealth, gender sensitivity and development, and financial literacy and management.
Mentors from partner institution, which is the University of Bohol, handled the training sessions on personal and social skills while the garment manufacturing skills training is handled by mentors from BISU and Technical Education Skills and Development Authority (TESDA).
It can be remembered that on Sept. 10, 2021, City Mayor John Geesnell Yap II at the Saulog Gymnasium, led the graduation ceremony of the 1st batch of 25 beneficiaries of the BABA Livelihood Program.
Mayor Yap congratulated the beneficiaries and encouraged them to continue with their aspirations of becoming entrepreneurs.
“Use all the skills that you have learned here as you venture into your business. Coupled with faith, perseverance, and hard work, these capacity buildings will help you achieve your goals of becoming financially independent in the future,” Yap said.
Mayor Yap also witnessed the contract signing between the University of Bohol Research Center (UBRC) represented by Dr. Leah Wilfreda Pilongo and the Tagbilaran City Livelihood Development Office under Adelfa Salutan.
UBRC will conduct a study on the economic strategic sub-sector value chain in the 15 barangays and the gathering of necessary information needed for the establishment of the Tagbilaran City Livelihood Database. The database would provide vital data in order to tailor-fit livelihood projects to future beneficiaries
