All You Need to Know about Dental Bridging
(Part 1)
This week, we are starting a new topic, which is about dental bridge.
A dental bridge is a prosthetic that bridges the gap created by a missing tooth or several missing teeth.
The bridge is made up of 1 or 2 crowns for teeth on either side of the gap that will serve as anchor/s. They are called abutment teeth.
There is also prosthetic teeth that are called pontics and made from porcelain, alloys, or gold.
The patient’s mouth can support the dental bridge with the use of implants or natural teeth. If a patient has lost all his/her teeth and wants to have a new set of fake teeth without resorting to dentures, then the patient should gets implants with several rows of dental bridges.
Bridges offer the patient some features and benefits such as restoring the smile after losing a tooth or teeth. The bridges can help people who lost their teeth to be able to bite again, or chew or speak clearly.
Bridges can also prevent the remaining teeth from moving out of their position to fill in the gap left by the missing tooth/teeth.
Getting a bridge in a patient’s mouth helps improve the shape of the face.
There are other things that bridges can do for a patient who lost a tooth/teeth. Next week, we will continue our discussion on dental bridges.
