Vice Governor Rene Relampagos and the members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) passed a resolution to facilitate the processing of the financial grant from the Department of Agriculture (DA).
On Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2021, the provincial board, led by Relampagos, approved the resolution, which authorizes Gov. Arthur Yap to sign a memorandum of agreement with the DA – Regional Field Office 7.
The P 2.9 million grant is specifically meant to fund the procurement of a livestock cargo truck, which will be used by the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian (OPV).
The grant aims to improve transport and logistics support to farmers.
The grant is part of the DA’s Enhanced Kadiwa ni Ani at Kita Inclusive Food Supply Chain Program, with a goal of making the food supply chain in the country more inclusive and efficient.
Relampagos supports this initiative, considering how beneficial a brand new, fully functional cargo truck will be to the OPV, more importantly, the Boholano livestock growers.
The truck is essential for the ease of distribution of livestock, poultry, and other agricultural products from the project sites to beneficiaries around the province.
The vice governor has long been a champion of agriculture in Bohol, especially in the livestock sector.
Under his leadership as governor in 1996, the Barangay Livestock Aide (BALA) program was created to proactively safeguard the livestock industry, starting from the grassroots level.
Relampagos constantly looks out for projects that may benefit the livestock growers in Bohol. He also keenly supports the processing of these projects, such as this recent grant, which the province hopes to receive soon.
