Policeman kills 2, injures 4 others after getting involved in alleged reckless driving incidents

A policeman is reportedly involved in alleged reckless driving incidents that led to the death of 2 persons and 4 others injured along CPG North Avenue on Dec. 12, 2021, a report from Camp Francisco Dagohoy said.

The spokesman of the Bohol Police Provincial Office (BPPO), Lt. Thomas Zen Cheung in a statement identified the suspect as Patrolman Ruben Ayuban, 31, assigned to the Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RMFB) 7 based in Catagbacan, Loon. Reports add that the suspect is a resident of barangay Salvador, Sierra Bullones.

The BPPO spokesman added that the victims who died were identified as Liza Jimenez and Aileen Apatan. They were from barangay Virgen, Anda.

Both were brought to the Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital (GCGMH) but were declared dead on arrival.

The victims who got hurt were identified as Ella Jean Gamban, of barangay Lourdes, Cortes; Edwin Alcoran, 25, of barangay Tinago, Dauis; Aristedez Taghap, of barangay Cogon, Tagbilaran City and Anthony Gabriel Villafuerte of barangay Booy, Tagbilaran City.

Cheung said the incident happened at around 7:21 pm on Dec. 12, 2021 where the first incident happened near a gasoline station and the other near the Unitop General Merchandise store.

Based on the initial investigation, it was learned that the suspect was driving a Hyundai EON with plate number AAZ 7153. The suspect allagedly hit Jimenez and Apatan who reportedly were walking along the side street due to reckless driving.

Moreover, the suspect also collided with a motorcycle boarded by Gamban and Alcoran.

Then, the suspect again collided with a tricycle driven by Taghap with Villafuerte in the passenger cab.

All of those who got injured were brought to a the GCGMH for medical treatemenf, Cheung said.

The Special Weapons and Tactics team of Tagbilaran City Police Station arrested the suspect following the alleged reckless driving incidents and now in detention.

According to the Tagbilaran police chief, Lt. Col. Mary Crystal Peralta said the police are going to file cases against the suspect.

BPPO chief Col. Osmundo Salibo has expressed sympathy and condolences to the families of those who died and assures that justice will be served to the victims of the incidents.

Meanwhile, Cheung issued a statement denying the report of a local mediaman Ted Ayeng, that the suspect in the alleged incidents was under the influence of liquor.

Cheung, in the same statement, denied reports that the suspect fired a gun.
