A day after Typhoon Odette hit Bohol, Cong. Edgar Chatto conducted a 2-day inspection of the towns in his district, to help the Provincial Government and Local Government Units (LGUs) conduct rapid assessment on relief operations and extent of damage to support preparations for the formulation of rehabilitation plans as bases for local government, national government, and international support.
Chatto personally visited all first district towns on Dec. 17 and 18, 2021.
He visited Balilihan, Catigbian, Corella, Tagbilaran City, Cortes, Maribojoc, Loon, Calape, and Tubigon on Friday, Dec. 17, 2021 and then inspected the towns of Sikatuna, Albur, Baclayon, Dauis, Panglao, and Antequera on Saturday, Dec. 18, 2021.
The solon, in his visit to the towns, saw workers of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) conducting clearing operations.
He also met some barangay officials who were using farm tractors to clear the roads from obstructions.
Chatto urged local governments, including barangay officials, to coordinate closely with the Provincial Government in relief and rehabilitation efforts for their constituents.
The destruction brought by the typhoon reminded Chatto of the earthquake that hit the province in 2013.
Chatto reflects “I am in awe once again of the resilience of the Boholano,” as he shared encounters with residents who were trying to fix their roofs, but still are able to wave and smile despite the calamity that happened.
“The Boholano character is a joy to witness amid the difficulties and challenges we are facing,” Chatto quipped.
Chatto is in close coordination with Gov. Arthur Yap, Provincial Administrator Kathyrin Pioquinto, and Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Anthony Damalerio in monitoring, assessing and responding to the impact of typhoon Odette.
Chatto is also keeping in touch with relevant national agencies, primarily the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) for food relief efforts.
