PGBh prioritizes relief to island barangays

Gov. Arthur Yap bared that the Provincial Government of Bohol is prioritizing help to the island barangays, which are among the most impacted by the wrath of typhoon Odette.

In an interview with national and local reporters on Dec. 21, 2021, Yap said that the islands located in the towns of Talibon, Bien Unido, and Getafe.

He said that these areas, located in the 2nd district of Bohol, are the most affected by the typhoon.

“Grabe ang situation sa mga island barangays ng Bohol ngayon. Isipin nyo po nakatira ka sa isla, dinaanan ka ng bagyo, wala kang Bangka dahil nawasak. Wala kang fishing equipment dahil nawala, so wala kang livelihood,” Yap said.

He added that most of the island residents in these towns lost their homes and there is no water supply because the supply comes from the mainland, the governor explained.

The governor said that this is why there is a need to prioritize relief efforts for the residents of the island barangays located in the 2nd district of Bohol.

“Kung hindi natin dadalhan ng ayuda ang mga ito [island residents] then kawawang kawawa talagang parang sinasabi na bahala na kayo diyan na wala kaming pakialam sa inyo,” Yap quipped.

The PGBh said that it is making sure that aid is brought to the island residents in the towns of Talibon, Getafe and Bien Unido.

Vessels from the Philippine Coast Guard were used to bring the relief goods distributed to the residents in the barangay islands in the 2nd district.

Meanwhile, Yap asked President Duterte to send more police officers and military personnel to maintain peace and order in the northern towns of Bohol that are most affected by the typhoon.
