All You Need to Know about Dental Bridging

(Part 4)

This week we shift our discussion to the dental bridges that use implant support.

Dental bridges that use implant-support, as the name suggest, are supported by dental implants instead of frameworks, crowns, and the remaining natural teeth the patient has. Usually, one implant is placed in every missing tooth and the series of implants supports the dental bridge in place.

However, it’s also possible for the bridge to be made of a pontic or several pontics placed between implant-supported crowns instead if one implant per tooth which can be costly or too painful.

Implant- supported bridges are known to be comfortable on the patient’s mouth and will not fall off. This type of bridge is unlike a standard bridge that needs shaving and ends up ruining natural teeth between the gaps in the mouth. The dentist can save those teeth by placing implants. It is just that this technique may be a bit expensive and may require at least 2 surgeries.

So how much would a dental bridge procedure cost?

The cost of having dental bridges mainly depends on the type. The cost may also vary from one dentist to another, area of the country and possibly the materials that will be used. These are some of the factors that contribute to the cost of having dental bridges.

If possible check if your dental insurance covers this procedure. Or you may talk with your dentist for possible financial scheme that can be worked out in order to cushion the heavy cost of having dental bridges.

Normally, dental insurance may cover the cost partially with the remaining amount to be paid by the patient.

Another important factor to consider when taking a look at the cost is the difficulty of the procedures. As mentioned earlier, there is a possibility that 2 surgeries are needed to complete the installation of dental bridges. It is important to know how many implants, or pontics are needed to complete the job.

Of course, additional cost may surface if a patient has other pre-existing dental conditions that may require extra treatments or procedure.
