Burns

I have already discussed burns in children and we know that these are not uncommon accidental injuries in children.

In today’s issue, I wish to discuss the kinds of burns and these are:

  1. Scald burns
  • this is the most frequent type of burn in home injuries usually afflicting children
  • hot water, hot liquids and hot foods are the most common causes
  1. Flame Burns
  • this may be due to gasoline, kerosene, liquefied petroleum gas , burning houses and buildings
  1. Chemical Burns
  • this occurs usually in laboratories and in industrial firms
  • Acid is a more common cause than alkali which is often used for cleaning drains
  1. Electrical Burns
  • children playing kite-flying may have electrical burns when trying to retrieve kites caught in high tension lines
  • there is an entrance often in the hands or head and an exit for the current commonly in the feet
  • the current travels through the body and may stop the heart and or depress the respiratory center in the medulla
  • many victims need cardio-pulmonary resuscitation at the scene of the accident
  • this type of burn has the worst damage to the human body
  1. Radiation Burns
  • this results from Xray or radioactive radiation and nuclear bomb explosions
  • severe changes in the blood vessels plus damaging effects on vital areas like the bone marrow may arise

With the recent calamity that hit us, we are now in the situation where there is no electricity. In this case most homes are using candles, stocking of gasolines, and charging stations are full. We must be very cautious to avoid fire and other accidents. Despite these trials, we must not lose hope and have faith in God Almighty.
God is good. Mama Mary loves us.

From my family, I wish to greet each one of us, a very blessed and prosperous New Year 2022. Thank you.
