Gov. Arthur Yap revealed in a nationally televised interview that the power situation in the province may persist until April 2022 when the electricity supply will return to normal.
The governor made the statement in an interview with CNN Philippines’ The Source program hosted by Pinky Webb on Dec. 6, 2022.
Yap said the projection of the normalization of power situation in Bohol is based on the assessment of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) which is working to replace the fallen towers that link the province’s power source in Leyte to the different distribution utilities (DU) in Bohol.
According to NGCP spokesperson Betty Martinez, the company has yet to replace the fallen “special towers” located in Ubay and Pres. Carlos P. Garcia towns.
The special towers are the link that carry the transmission lines from the Leyte power plants to the distribution lines of the Bohol DU’s, Martinez explained.
Moreover, the height of the special towers is about 180 meters. The towers were toppled when typhoon Odette unleashed her fury here, she added.
She made the assurance that the operations to replace the toppled special towers will commence soon.
