Vice Guv, SP okay building of rice mills in 4 towns

Vice Governor Rene Relampagos presided over the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) which approved a resolution that will lead to the establishment of triple pass rice mills in the towns of San Miguel, Calape, Dagohoy, and Loboc.

The resolution, which grants Gov. Arthur Yap the authority to sign an agreement (MOA) with the four said local government

units (LGU), was approved during the regular session last Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2022.

With this, the Provincial Government, through the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA), gets a go signal to start the project.

The primary goal of the initiative to build more rice mills is to increase the income of local farmers.

The project focuses on the post-production system of rice and seeks to improve it through the provision of modern rice processing facilities. Better rice mills are expected to produce quality milled rice, according to the report coming from the SP.

Moreover, the project can help reduce the chances of post-harvest losses.

Present at the pre-session meeting was Dr. Larry Pamugas, the acting provincial agriculturist.

He said that OPA, with the support of the provincial government, is looking into the possibility of establishing additional rice mills in Bohol.

Relampagos emphasized that having more rice mills contribute to the efforts of securing food in the province.

The vice governor stressed that any venture that can contribute to empowering the agricultural sector, especially the farmers, is welcome.
