XO Syndrome

XO individuals are chromatin negative and have a 45/XO chromosomal constitution. This is also known as Turner Syndrome, Bonnevie – Ullrich Syndrome and Gonadal dysgenesis.

Individuals affected are usually raised as girls and show few major anomalies until puberty when they fail to develop secondary sex characters.

Turner Syndrome has the following physical attributes:
– dwarfism
– webbing of the neck
– low-set ears
– mature facial appearance
– cubitus valgus
(reduced carrying angle of the elbow)
– poorly developed breasts
– infantile external genitals
– the internal sexual organs are female although the ovary is usually only a streak of connective tissue
– they may have edema of the extremities, coarctation of the aorta and mental deficiency
